When I was 12, I fell in love with an old classical guitar abandoned in my grandmother’s ceiling. As Gian Luca (real name Gianluca Gentile, 1987),
I embarked on a musical journey with the mentoring of Franco Natale, captured by that fingerpicking style he still uses in my songs.
After spending my teenage years studying electric guitar with Marco Sfogli and performing classic rock anthems in several bands in Caserta - my hometown, I moved to Rome to further develop my music studies at Saint Louis College of Music.
Through the brilliant tutoring of Lello Panico, I had the opportunity to be fully immersed in blues and traditional Anglo-American music.
During this period, I started to feel the need to write my own songs as the only way to explore the universe and comment about thoughts and feelings.
Influenced by traditional English and American folk and country and by the great singer songwriters such as Bob Dylan, James Taylor, Jackson Browne, Nick Drake, Paul Simon, Van Morrison, Johnny Cash, etc., I chose acoustic guitar as my main instrument and embraced Song Writing with Lello Panico and Alessandro Centofanti.
In 2012, I released two original songs, One Day and The Lack Song written and arranged by myself, recorded at Saint Louis College of Music and produced by Josè Fiorilli.
In 2014, following my love for music, I went on the road once again... this time, towards London.
